Immerse Yourself in Mikea Culture | Velondriake (Andavadoaka)

Mikea are a group of indigenous people of Madagascar who call the southwest spiny forest their home. Mikea have historically been a marginalized group even by Malagasy standards. Local leaders Manou and Tsivahora are doing all they can to protect and preserve the culture for generations to come. Beyond being a group of people, Mikea is a mentality, one in which co-exists directly with their local resources, honoring the sanctity of the forest and only taking from it what they need for survival. Manou says that the greatest threat to their culture is the desire to modernize and get a way from the purity of their traditions. In her words, visiting their village and learning their way of life makes them feel seen, valued, and provides the support to fight against their marginalization and continue their way of life! Don’t miss out on the opportunity to take an a day to experience their culture and support its preservation!
