Ranomafana National Park
Ranomafana is best known for its iconic national park—a lush expanse of dense rainforest teeming with endemic wildlife. But it’s also the name of a rural municipality with a population of around 10,000 people, primarily from the Tanala tribe.
Traditionally forest dwellers, the Tanala have had to adapt their way of life after the forest was designated as a protected national park. Their story is a powerful reminder of the complex balance between conservation and community—one that continues to shape the region today.
