Nosy Sakatia
Nosy Sakatia is a small island just off the coast of Nosy Be, celebrated for its natural beauty and rich biodiversity—both on land and underwater. With coral reefs, calm bays, and vibrant marine life, it’s a favorite destination for snorkeling, swimming with sea turtles, and soaking in a slower pace of life.
For generations, a few small Malagasy villages—totaling fewer than 500 residents—have called this island home. However, recent reports indicate that a foreign developer has acquired the island, leading to the eviction of its local inhabitants. It’s a powerful example of how development and tourism can sometimes come at the cost of displacing the very communities that give a place its soul.
