Famadihana Cultural Experience | Antananarivo

Famadihana is a funerary tradition of the Malagasy. During this ceremony, known as the turning of the bones, people bring forth the bodies of their ancestors from the family crypts, rewrap the corpses in fresh cloth, and rewrite their names on the cloth so they will always be remembered. This event only happens once five years after the death of an ancestor. There will be a great feast in my village, and I am happy to invite you experience this unique cultural tradition from 8am to 3pm. Eat lots of local food, drink local rum (toaka gasy), enter the tomb and even touch the bones if you are not afraid.

Included:

  • Food and drink as offered within the feast
  • Gift for the family
  • Transportation from the city center
